Casino Constanta seen from the seaside promenade
Detail of one of the apsesSince the first time I went to visit the second biggest city of Romania, I felt in love with the majestic Casino in Constanta, lying on the seaside of the city.
During our short trip in 2012 to admire the rare phenomenon of the Black Sea getting frozen, we made our first report of the Casino's conditions.
In that occasion Oti wrote a very complete post with all the past history and information with photos of the interior and of the exterior. And the majesty of the Casino in that occasion was multiplied by the unique setting: the frozen Black Sea creating amazing icy sculpture. So if that's what you are looking for, Broken windows in Casino ConstantaI suggest you to first read our previous article that you can find here: Casino Constanta on the frozen Black Sea.
But also this year we went back in Constanta, and clearly we couldn't miss the chance to go and visit the Casino again, to see if there were any improvements during this period. And in fact there were changes, but the situation got worst instead of improving.
First of all it wasn't possible to visit the interior anymore, even if to be sincere the previous yearA decorated pillar falling apart it was a "special opening" when we got inside and we visited the Casino wearing safety helmets.
This year there were some works going on the pavement of the promenade, but no sign of any maintenance to the Casino. The photos and the details are expressing more than my words the state in which it is abandoned. It's a shame that such a masterpiece of Art Nouveau Architecture is falling apart and neglected by local administration.
If we will get a chance to go back to the Casino in Constanta also in 2014, we will see if after one more year things are still stuck at the same point. Hope dies last.
