A typical Italian scene in Scilla, Calabria
A new year just began, and we are still analyzing our 2013 to understand how we could have made it better, not to repeat the same mistakes in 2014, and what we learnt from our good and bad experiences.
In 2013 we were physically blocked most of the time, because of my unstable health condition first and Oti's mum condition after, so it turned out to be more of an interior travel for us this year.
If we think about 2013, we think of doctors and hospitals. Oti had to pass through the loss of her mum, an event very difficult to accept, but that made her much stronger than she was before. I personally went through almost every existing available exams of allophatic medicine, and it didn't help too much. Apart from vitamin B12 deficiency the cause of my problems wasn't found and it's still obscure.
I spent for my health almost as much as I would normally spend for two years of low cost travelling, with no results rather than draining my little finances. That's why I'm turning more and more inside myself, trying to awake the natural healing power that is inside each of us (official medicine calls it placebo effect, in a pejorative way). We are also being more aware of nutrition, and slowly and naturally turning from vegetarian to raw vegan. Most of my readings were about health, and I can't wait to test also the incredible power of fasting that I discovered from my books. We are actually fasting today for the first time, but it's going to be just for one day. I do want to test it for a longer period, and give to my body all of the energy and focus that he needs to activate its healing power.
What I liked the most about 2013, is that we had time to concentrate more on ourselves, even if we didn't use at its maximum this possibility, and we read more than we were used to, also thanks to my new e-book reader. Oti discovered the pleasure of reading that was still missing from her life. We also traveled a couple of months in total, and we keep great memories from the time spent while discovering some amazing places around my birthplace in Calabria. We volunteered through Help-X website and learned how to build earth houses, and we participated to a Youth in Action program in Czech Republic and learnt how to build tree houses.
What are we expecting from 2014? We still want to learn and experience life, but we hope this year is going to be less though on ourselves, and to do it in a different way, having the possibility to express all of our potential and to develop ourselves while traveling, exploring new destinations and meeting new cultures.
